About this role
This Senior Community Health Nurse position is part of the Florida Department of Health in Polk County, serving the Auburndale Clinic. The role supports the agency's mission to protect, promote, and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county, and community efforts.
Day-to-day responsibilities include providing community health nursing services across Maternal Health, Family Planning, Immunizations, Communicable Disease, and Adult Health programs. The nurse prepares clinic areas and equipment, assists physicians and ARNPs, and interviews clients to obtain complete health histories and presenting complaints.
The incumbent works under the supervision of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor and serves a population consisting mostly of low to middle income families with multiple medical and socio-economic problems. Clinical duties involve taking vital signs, performing screening tests, collecting specimens, administering medications, and providing HIV screening with pre- and post-test counseling.

Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida
- Experience in community health nursing or public health setting
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems
- Ability to perform venipuncture and lab draws
- Knowledge of maternal health, family planning, immunizations, communicable disease, and adult health nursing
- Skill in interpreting and reinforcing physician/ARNP instructions to clients
- Ability to make appropriate referrals and assist clients with follow-up arrangements
Responsibilities
- Prepare clinic area and equipment for daily operations
- Assist physician and/or ARNP as needed during patient visits
- Interview clients to obtain complete health history and presenting complaints
- Take vital signs and perform other screening tests
- Collect specimens for laboratory tests or interpret laboratory tests
- Administer medications as ordered by physician/ARNP or under medical protocol
- Provide screening for the HIV antibody virus, pre- and post-test counseling, education, and referrals for medical evaluation and support services
- Enter and complete correct client information into Electronic Health Records
