About this role

Under the direction of the Emergency Department director, manager, and charge nurses, this position encompasses the provision and management of emergency patient care through implementation of the nursing process. The role includes delegation to and supervision of licensed and unlicensed personnel, as well as coordination of interdisciplinary care.

Day-to-day responsibilities involve working in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing, prioritizing, and delegating patient care while completing work assignments. The nurse will utilize equipment such as computers, monitoring equipment, smart IV pumps, rapid infusers, and blood warmers to deliver care.

The team environment is collaborative, involving coordination with physicians, other nurses, and support staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The nurse must demonstrate knowledge of common disease processes, treatment modalities, and interventions, and communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.

Growth opportunities include completing NIH Stroke Scale Certification prior to department orientation and Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training within four months of hire. Re-certification for CPI is required annually the first year, then bi-annually, supporting ongoing professional development.

Requirements

  • Current active California Registered Nurse license
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS card, AHA ACLS, AHA PALS or ENPC certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification prior to completing department orientation
  • Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification within 4 months of hire/transfer (re-certify next year, then bi-annually)
  • Able to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing
  • Able to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment, managing, prioritizing, and delegating patient care
  • Demonstrate knowledge of common disease processes, treatment modalities, and interventions
  • Above average computer skills
