About this role
This per diem Registered Nurse position on the 5T Telemetry unit at Salinas Valley Health is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized patient care in a fast-paced telemetry environment. The RN works under the supervision of the Director and must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Day-to-day duties include completing nursing assessments, developing and updating plans of care based on patient needs, and collaborating with physicians and the healthcare team. The nurse initiates discharge planning, provides patient and family teaching, and contributes to cost-effective care by monitoring the use of time, equipment, and supplies.
This role acts as a preceptor and charge nurse as assigned, and participates in in-services, committees, and performance improvement activities to maintain professional standards. The nurse facilitates physiological, psychosocial, and spiritual care while utilizing positive communication skills to effect conflict resolution and teamwork.
This position offers variable shift scheduling with an FTE of 0.0, making it an ideal opportunity for nurses seeking flexibility within a supportive, union-represented environment. The hourly rate for this per diem role is $89.37 - $103.45, with shift differentials available for evening and night shifts.
Requirements
- Current California RN license required.
- Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status per American Heart Association standards required.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required; BSN preferred.
- Twelve (12) or more months of service as a registered nurse in an acute care setting required.
- Candidates selected for hire must successfully complete a Pharmacology and EKG Test.
- Should be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on the unit.
Responsibilities
- Complete nursing assessment of patient and document appropriately into patient record.
- Develop a plan of care based on assessment of patient, age appropriate and developmental needs.
- Collaborate with physicians and other health team members in developing and implementing a plan of care.
- Initiate, manage, and participate in discharge planning and patient/family teaching.
- Evaluate and update patient's response to plan of care.
- Act as preceptor and charge nurse as assigned, and actively participate in achieving departmental goals.
- Demonstrate necessary flexibility in regard to changes in hospital or unit activities.
- Comply with safety policies and procedures to provide a safe environment for employees, patients, and visitors.
