About this role

This role is responsible for the care activities and goal achievements of assigned patients by assessing, diagnosing, planning, and intervening in actual or potential health problems. The nurse evaluates patient response to care and provides health teaching and discharge planning.

Day-to-day duties include conducting nursing assessments based on interview, examination, observation, and review of records. The nurse ensures patient progress is reflected in progress notes and revised care plans, and communicates information to patients based on their level of awareness and readiness to learn.

The nurse acts as a member of a designated care team, collaborating, coordinating, and guiding team members in planning patient care. As a professional role model and mentor, the nurse supports orientation of new staff by providing feedback and serving as a preceptor and resource person.

This position offers opportunities for professional growth by participating in the development of other staff members and reflecting collaborative efforts in meeting patient and unit needs. The nurse also assumes accountability and responsibility for completion and quality of assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Nursing program.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) RN currently matriculated in a BSN program with graduation within one year considered.
  • Any ADN RN with nursing experience must be approved by the Chief Nursing Officer.
  • Current New York State RN license (required 1 year of licensure).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required for specific departments (ED, PACU, ICUs, Telemetry, SDU, IR, Interventional Cardiology, L&D, Endoscopy, and APN Adult Oncology).

Responsibilities

  • Conducts nursing assessment based on interview, examination, observation, and review of patient records.
  • Ensures patient progress is reflected in progress notes and revised care plans.
  • Performs discharge planning consistent with patient status, reflecting inter-departmental and inter-agency communication.
  • Communicates information to patients based on their level of awareness and readiness to learn.
  • Supports orientation of new staff by acting as a preceptor, role model, and resource person.
  • Organizes provision of care to meet priority needs of patients and unit.
  • Assumes accountability and responsibility for completion and quality of assigned tasks.
