The Temporary Nurse Practitioner role in the Aerodigestive Center focuses on patient care coordination, education, and evaluation of care needs for patients in the outpatient setting. This part-time position involves 20 hours per week over two 10-hour days for approximately six months, targeting a start in May 2026 through December 2026. No weekends, evenings, or call are required.

Day-to-day duties include partnering with physicians, nurse practitioners, staff nurses, administrative support, and multidisciplinary team members such as pulmonary specialists, ORL, SLPs, and dietitians. Deliver direct team-based and independent patient care in the outpatient clinic. Maintain frequent contact with patients and families between visits, serving as triage for phone calls and questions.

Coordinate diagnostic studies, procedures, and communications with referring providers to ensure seamless care. Post-clinic, confirm appropriate follow-up and care coordination is in place. Participate in team meetings within a collaborative environment at Boston Children's Hospital.

Assist with ordering medications and medical supplies, interface with insurance and DME companies. Engage in quality improvement projects and research to support the Aerodigestive Center's mission. This onsite role offers focused experience in pediatric aerodigestive care.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing
  • 1-3 years of pediatric Nurse Practitioner experience preferred
  • New NP graduates with strong inpatient pediatric RN experience considered
  • MA licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse PNP or FNP

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care coordination, education, and evaluation of care needs for Aerodigestive Center patients in the outpatient setting
  • Partner with physicians, nurse practitioners, staff nurses, administrative support staff, and multidisciplinary team members (including pulmonary, ORL, SLPs, dietitians) to provide direct team-based and independent patient care
  • Maintain frequent contact with patients and families between clinic visits, acting as triage contact for patient phone calls and questions

  • Ensure appropriate follow-up and care coordination after clinic visits
  • Participate in team meetings and assist with ordering medications and medical supplies
