About this role

We are looking for Operating Theatre Nurses to join our dynamic team of healthcare professionals, providing high quality patient centred care in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care setting. The post holder will work across Theatres, Minor Procedure Rooms, and Day Theatres, ensuring a high standard of patient care.

Day-to-day responsibilities include managing the perioperative care of patients, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualised care pre-, intra- and post-operatively. The post holder communicates with the multi-disciplinary team to coordinate care and prepares clinical areas for receiving patients, completing all safety checks.

This role is part of a multidisciplinary team within Beaumont Hospital’s Theatre Department, establishing and maintaining good working relationships aimed at delivering a high standard of care. The post holder is expected to develop additional clinical skills pertinent to the specialty, such as scrub/circulating or anaesthetic/recovery nursing.

The post holder is expected to develop specialist knowledge and skills of nursing practice relating to their designated working environment, such as scrub/circulating or anaesthetic/recovery nursing. This role provides a pathway for professional growth while maintaining adherence to NMBI standards and Beaumont Hospital values.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse on the NMBI Register (or eligible for registration).
  • Knowledge of the NMBI Scope of Practice and Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Ability to work within the perioperative setting, including Theatres, Minor Procedure Rooms, and Day Theatres.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop specialist skills in scrub/circulating or anaesthetic/recovery nursing.
  • Commitment to adhering to Beaumont Hospital policies, guidelines, and competencies.
  • Strong assessment, planning, and documentation skills for perioperative patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Be accountable and responsible for own actions and know the content of the Scope of Practice for Nursing and Midwifery, Code of Professional Conduct, Beaumont Hospital policies, guidelines and competencies relevant to practice.
  • Maintain knowledge of and work in adherence to all Beaumont Hospital Standard Operating Procedures and policies.
  • Develop specialist knowledge and skills of nursing practice relating to scrub/circulating or anaesthetic/recovery nursing.
  • Ensure the highest possible standards of patient care and patient safety are maintained in line with national and local policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Prepare clinical areas for receiving perioperative patients and complete all safety checks in line with local and national policy.
  • Communicate with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to plan and coordinate patient care.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised, high quality patient care pre-, intra- and post-operatively.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and legible clinical and legal documentation in accordance with national and local policies.
