About this role

The Public Health Nurse Manager Senior manages a district nursing program or a major segment of a comprehensive nursing program. This role provides formal supervision to Nurse Supervisors while serving as a key member of the district management team.

Core duties include developing and monitoring the budget, recruiting staff, procuring and administering grants, conducting community needs assessments, and allocating resources. The position also oversees quality assurance of service delivery across nursing programs.

Direct patient care is performed occasionally, including nursing assessments, lab tests, measurements, care plan development, medication administration, and case management in clinics, homes, and schools. All clinical work requires active RN licensure in Virginia.

Requirements

  • Requires licensure as a RN in Virginia
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Extensive knowledge of nursing management, public health nursing, and practices of public health
  • Proven ability to provide effective leadership and operations management and direct subordinate nurse managers and supervisors
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communication, community assessment, planning, and staff development
  • Ability to collaboratively lead staff, synthesize and interpret data, monitor and evaluate quality assurance, and present results to internal and external constituencies
