About this role
Under general supervision, this role plans and provides direct professional nursing care for specified patients throughout the entire episode of service delivery as defined by population and unit. Nursing services are delivered to patients and families in accordance with professional standards, Connecticut Children's policies, and regulatory requirements.
On a daily basis, the nurse demonstrates clinical expertise and uses the nursing process to provide safe, appropriate patient care to a defined patient population. This includes applying knowledge of the differences and needs of patients presenting with behavioral health concerns, while demonstrating cultural sensitivity in all interactions.
The nurse fosters effective team dynamics amongst staff using clear communication that supports patient, family, and staff safety. As assigned, the nurse participates in the professional development of others through preceptor and mentor activities, and supports the unit's work productivity and resource management.
This role partners with patients and families in evaluating outcomes, monitoring and trending responses to treatment, and providing appropriate education. The nurse also develops a working understanding of medico-legal implications of evidence handling and preservation, supporting the organization's mission and values.
Requirements
- Current State of Connecticut Registered Nurse licensure required upon hire and maintained thereafter.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR in adult, child, and infant required upon hire and maintained thereafter.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of hire or before completion of orientation if longer than 6 months.
- Specialty licensure or certification may be required as specified by department.
- Minimum of two years' clinical experience in pediatrics and/or behavioral health setting preferred.
- Ability to delegate duties and tasks associated with patient care to clinical staff according to hospital policy and scope of practice.

- Serve as a nurse for patients presenting with behavioral health concerns, fostering teamwork, consistency, and collaboration.
- Develop a working understanding of medico-legal implications of evidence handling and preservation.
