Management & Training Corporation (MTC) is seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join the medical unit at Otero County Prison Facility in Chaparral, New Mexico. This role is grounded in the philosophy of caring about others, giving back, and making a social impact by helping an at-risk population receive the treatment necessary for a healthy, productive life.

In this full-time position, you will plan and implement professional mental health service programs, including psychiatric services for residents of the facility. You will diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medications, develop treatment plans, and provide ongoing psychiatric care including emergency interventions in a secure correctional environment.

You will collaborate with internal departments and external organizations to ensure continuity of mental health services while adhering to prison safety protocols and confidentiality standards. The role also involves developing therapeutic programs, maintaining inmate mental health records in compliance with HIPAA, and serving on an on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend psychiatric emergencies.

Requirements

  • Licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in the state of New Mexico
  • Ability to diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe appropriate medications
  • Experience performing mental health assessments including suicide prevention and crisis intervention
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and ability to maintain strict confidentiality of inmate records
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification
  • Ability to work effectively in a secure correctional environment with an at-risk population
  • Strong collaboration skills to coordinate with internal departments and external organizations

Responsibilities

  • Provide coordinated mental health services to the inmate population, overseeing all aspects of mental health and behavioral treatment while ensuring safety of both inmates and staff in a secure environment
  • Diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe appropriate medications, and develop treatment plans based on thorough evaluations
  • Perform mental health assessments including suicide prevention, identifying abnormal behaviors, and defusing potentially disruptive situations
  • Recommend psychiatric and other mental health evaluations and coordinate with other mental health professionals to ensure comprehensive care
  • Develop and implement therapeutic programs to address the mental health needs of inmates in a high-security environment
  • Maintain and audit inmate mental health records, ensuring confidentiality and strict compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Serve on an on-call rotation to provide after-hours and weekend mental health care, including emergency interventions
  • Maintain current CPR certification and be prepared to perform CPR in emergencies
