About this role

University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse (RN) to assess patients' nursing care needs, evaluate the effectiveness of care provided, and integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice on the Neuropsychiatric Unit.

In this role, you will apply nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness. You will assess patient health care preferences and expectations, collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across settings, and develop patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions.

You will implement the patient care plan according to patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses, and document and report interventions and patient and family response. Collaboration with patients and families is essential to integrate their contributions into a multidisciplinary care plan, and you will develop, coordinate, and implement transfer and discharge planning throughout the episode of care.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Iowa
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher degree preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers
  • Experience in psychiatric or neuropsychiatric nursing (inferred for unit-specific role)
  • Knowledge of nursing theory and evidence-based practice in acute care settings
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care across the lifespan

Responsibilities
