The Medical Intensive Care Unit is located at the Health Science Campus Hospital, a teaching environment. Nurses collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-acuity care. The unit operates under the AFSCME HSC bargaining unit, ensuring union representation. The work requires accuracy, integrity, and flexibility in a fast-paced setting.

Opportunities for professional growth include taking on the Charge Nurse role and gaining experience in critical care. The position offers premium pay of 10% on top of the base hourly rate. Nurses must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and nicotine-free as a condition of employment.

Requirements

  • Active RN licensure in the State of Ohio.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Willingness to rotate shifts and units.
  • Ability to assume Charge Nurse role as needed.
  • Physical requirements: visual acuity 20/20 or corrected, ability to hear, manual dexterity, ability to push/pull/roll/transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally, ability to stand/walk frequently, ability to bend/reach/stoop/kneel frequently, ability to perform CPR.
  • Exhibits accuracy, integrity, and flexibility; punctual and dependable.
  • Possesses organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills and group facilitation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain standards of professional nursing practice and coordinate total nursing care for patients.
  • Provide leadership by working cooperatively with other health care professionals.
  • Assume Charge Nurse role as required.
  • Rotate shifts and units as needed.
  • Participate in on-call schedule and work weekend shifts and holidays as assigned.
  • Float to other units as needed.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and nursing protocols.
