About this role
The Nurse Manager is responsible 24 hours, seven days a week for the operations of the Emergency Department. They collaborate with staff and Nursing Director to provide consistent, quality nursing care benchmarked by indicators and performance standards. Fiscal responsibility for the unit and staff level education are key aspects of the role.
Oversees daily operations to meet the vision of providing services to the community. Provides coaching and education for staff to meet or exceed performance expectations. Completes all employee performance evaluations by due dates and ensures skills match job requirements.
Manages clinical practice and patient care delivery while collaborating with other departments and Medical Staff. Leads task forces, PI teams, committees, and participates in the ER Committee. Coordinates data collection, statistics, and performance improvement activities.
Develops mechanisms to assess response to nursing care from patients and families. Ensures compliance with professional standards, regulations, and government standards of care. Justifies budget variances, reduces costs, and manages resources for adequate staffing and future growth.
Requirements
- Current knowledge of standards of care from profession, research, regulatory bodies, and government
- Ability to select, hire, evaluate, and counsel staff
- Experience ensuring nursing practice aligns with regulations and standards
- Proficiency in fiscal management including staffing cost/patient day variances
- Skill in utilizing customer satisfaction data for service improvements
- Knowledge of emergency department operations and performance indicators
