About this role

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center seeks a Staff Nurse (RN) for its postpartum unit, which features 49 private rooms designed to support a truly family-centered experience. In this contingent/IRP role, you will manage and provide care to patients and their families, directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team.

Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating, and evaluating nursing care in alignment with the professional practice model. You will work to maximize the patient's involvement in their own plan of care while reducing the length of hospitalization.

Our nursing team partners closely with OB physicians, nurse midwives, pediatric providers, social workers, case managers, and lactation consultants, and collaborates daily with UCAs and PCAs to deliver coordinated, compassionate, and comprehensive care. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovation in research, education, and patient care within a leading academic medical center. The staff nurse plays a critical role in staff engagement, the patient experience, quality and safety, and cost-effective care.

Requirements

  • Degree in Nursing from a CCNE or ACEN accredited nursing program
  • Current Ohio RN license or interim permit
  • 2 years experience in relevant care setting preferred
  • Maintains current Ohio RN license
  • Meets mandatory educational and health requirements
  • Demonstrates computer skills required to meet job functions

Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide care to the patient and his/her family
  • Direct and supervise nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team
  • Assess, plan, implement, coordinate, delegate, and evaluate the nursing care of patients
  • Align nursing care with the professional practice model
  • Maximize the patient's involvement in his/her own plan of care
  • Reduce the length of hospitalization through effective care coordination
  • Collaborate with OB physicians, nurse midwives, pediatric providers, social workers, case managers, and lactation consultants
  • Work daily with UCAs and PCAs to deliver coordinated, compassionate, and comprehensive care
