About this role
CASA Mental Health is a non-profit providing holistic, culturally-safe wrap-around mental health services to Albertans. As a Mental Health Nurse, you will work in CASA House, a voluntary tertiary care residential program for youth in grades seven to 12 with complex needs. The program operates seven days a week and employs a multidisciplinary team.
You will provide nursing assessments and plans of care, including medication administration, monitoring, teaching, and health promotion. Utilizing a bio-psycho-social and trauma-informed approach, you will assist with individual or group therapy and coordinate with other professionals to ensure continuity of care. You will also maintain patient electronic health records in a complete and timely manner.
Reporting to the Clinical Manager and working with the Nursing Professional Practice Lead, you will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of trauma experts. The team works closely with youth and community partners to deliver service from community outreach to intensive treatment programs. You will contribute to program and clinical team meetings to support evidence-informed practice.
This is a temporary, part-time (0.8 FTE) position with rotating 8-9 hour shifts. You will have the chance to participate in program planning, recreation programming, and research initiatives. The role is in-scope under a union agreement with an hourly wage range of $40.28 to $53.03.
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
- Member in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA).
- Experience working with children and youth with complex mental health needs.
- Knowledge of bio-psycho-social and trauma-informed approaches to care.
- Ability to administer medications and monitor their effects.
- Strong documentation skills and proficiency with electronic health records.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing assessments and plans of care, including medication administration and monitoring, teaching, telephone follow-up and health promotion.
- Practice according to the code of ethics and practice standards of your specific professional college.
- Assist with individual or group therapy as directed when appropriate.
- Coordinate with other professionals to promote continuity of care and assist families with connecting to a primary care physician.
- Identify service delivery improvements and suggest enhancements utilizing evidence-informed practice and CASA’s strategic and operational plan.
- Maintain patient electronic health records in a complete and timely way.
- Work collaboratively with the research department to assist with critical appraisal, evaluation and knowledge transfer.
- Contribute to program and clinical team meetings.
