About this role

Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse Manager to lead a team of RNs, LPNs, and Psychiatric Care Technicians in providing nursing care to adult psychiatric patients ages 18-64. This role ensures a safe and therapeutic environment while collaborating with a multidisciplinary treatment team.

The 2nd shift RN Manager oversees patient care and operations, prioritizing care according to patient acuity and managing changes in patient behavior or physical condition. This position is actively involved in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care from admission through discharge.

Working closely with other members of the treatment team, the manager provides collaborative trauma-informed psychiatric care and supervises nurses and PCTs on the second shift. The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services supports recovery, self-determination, and wellness in all aspects of life.

Requirements

  • Current and in good standing Registered Nurse license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement accepted
  • Graduation from an accredited registered nurse program
  • Experience in psychiatric nursing
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Valid driver's license required and must remain valid and in good standing throughout employment

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of RNs, LPNs, and Psychiatric Care Technicians in providing nursing care to adult psychiatric patients
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team to deliver trauma-informed psychiatric care
  • Prioritize care according to patient acuity and manage changes in patient behavior or physical condition
  • Supervise nurses and PCTs on 2nd shift and oversee patient care and operations
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care from admission through discharge
  • Provide supervision and support to nurses and PCTs to ensure the highest level of patient care
  • Work a second shift schedule (3:00-11:30 p.m.) with flexibility for weekends and holidays in rotation
