The RN reports to the Surgical Services Director and provides diligent care to surgical patients in pre- and post-operative settings. This includes monitoring, assessment, intervention, and continuous reassessment. The PACU RN focuses on post-operative recovery from general, regional, and local anesthesia.

Requirements

  • Current RN license with the State of Iowa
  • Proficiency in pre-operative patient preparation
  • Skills in post-anesthesia patient monitoring
  • Knowledge of surgical patient assessment and intervention
  • Ability to provide discharge instructions for surgical patients
  • Experience with perioperative nursing protocols
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Surgical Services Director
  • Administer diligent care to surgical patients in pre- and post-operative settings
  • Perform monitoring, assessment, intervention, and continuous reassessment
  • Provide care for post-operative patients recovering from general, regional, and local anesthesia
  • Deliver discharge care and instructions to patients and caregivers prior to unit discharge
  • Perform perioperative RN responsibilities as directed by the Nursing Director
  • Assess patient recovery levels post-anesthesia
  • Monitor vital signs and manage pain in PACU
